Here is some information regarding our Kahala T-shirt day:

Wednesdays are Kahala T-shirt days.  Students wear their Kahala T-shirt on that day.  If you don't have one you can purchase one from the office staff.  We also wear our Kahala shirts when we go on a field trip. Closed shoes and socks are also requirements when we go on our trips.

Thank you

Some of the things we do in our classroom:

Morning circle time - we go over the calendar (months of the year, days of the week, weather, season) sometimes with a song.  Read a book or two and then go over the days lunch menu.

Since each student has their individualized goals they work on that through out the day. They work on  academic, life skill, OT (fine motor skills such as using fingers to hold objects etc) PT (large motor skills such as walking, running, balancing etc) and speech for communications. We also go into our kindergarten classroom and join them for various activities such as reading, Aina, field trips, drama,  articulation (PE, art, music, Hawaiian studies, library and computer).  Since each child has an IEP (Individualized Education Plan) so their program is made to fit their needs.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Here is a little information about myself.

My name is Aban Irani, I am a  Special Education Teacher at Kahala Elementary.  Started teaching at Kahala 2016-2017 school year.  I have taught special education at an Elementary School in Champaign, Illinois for 13 years. I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Special Education.

I believe that each child has the ability to grow and learn at their own pace. My goal as a teacher is to know my students well and the way they think and learn so I can build on their strength.  Having a good relationship with my students is important.  I also believe that the key to success is to have communication and cooperation between parents, students and teachers.

I am looking forward to having a wonderful and successful year.

Mahalo
