Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act
In 1968, Congress passed the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA). This law requires all K-12 schools to be inspected to identify any asbestos-containing building materials. The law further requires the development of a management plan based on the findings of the inspection. The plan outlines our intent in controlling the potential for exposure to asbestos fibers in our school. According to section 763.84 of the AHERA Act, our school is carefully inspected every six months for hazardous materials. This inspection has been completed and our school is free of any friable materials. The inspection is another means of assuring the public that Kahala Elementary School has a commitment to provide a safe environment for all members of our school community.
A copy of each school’s management plan is on file at the Honolulu District Office at 4967 Kilauea Avenue. A copy of our individual school plan is on file in our Administrative Office. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call Principal Gardner at 733-8455.
